soft and gentle launch
woah, y’all. Talk about performance anxiety.
It’s all a work in progress, right?
In fact, I have many works in progress! Last year was a big one - had a yarn with Jesse from RNZ, hosted the first Baby Lounge, and published a fair few things! Proud of this, in the Conversation, and thrilled with how “Digital Colonisation and Infant Mental Health” turned out (we’re on page 40 of that document!). And there’s an article in the latest OHbaby! (hence the lovely accompanying image!). I’ve also been working for almost 12 months on building something new… in addition to website updates … bravery and/or overeagerness??!! The new project is still kinda a wee bit secret squirrel … that said I can’t wait to gather some feedback, finish ‘er up and share with the mamas and babies of the world! I’ve also got high hopes for attending the WAIMH conference in Toronto, and the Play conference, conveniently located for some of us in Ōtautahi/Christchurch, NZ.
Meanwhile: here’s an article from the Harvard Gazette about how to pay attention, and I thought this was really interesting, from The Cut, about how kids are helicopter parenting themselves and their friends! I really appreciated this perspective about the ‘manufactured inevitability’ in our relationships with tech - super smart Substack by the Convivial Society. Speaking of ‘stacks, this stopped me in my tracks, asking “who are we when we are not pleasing anyone?”.
Bringing it on home now, with a brand new set of scales for measuring motivations for tech use within families, and I have been loving this fella and his cat and their singing crystal bowls. Take that, youtube algorithm!
